Easter is extremely early this year. It seemed that no sooner had the Christmas season finished that we were preparing for Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent. So here we are on our journey. Our church is taking on the aspect of Christ as it remembers his time of fasting in the desert. All the church statues are obscured with purple, and the water is slowly being drained from the fonts. We are going through a time of dryness whilst still being presented with ostentatious royal colours. This is our God. He is suffering in the desert. He is hungry and thirsty. Yet he is still God, and all kingdoms and authority belongs to him. This is our God. In a few weeks time we will solemnly remember the ultimate sacrifice he made for us and the new life he won for us. This is our God. He is inviting us to make the journey with him. If we are to understand him, we too must be prepared to walk through the barren desert to discover the true wealth and true riches of the Kingdom of God. The journey of Lent cannot be done in a half-measure and be of value. No matter how your Lenten journey has been this year, make a decision that you will commit to it completely for whatever time is left. Follow Jesus on his Lenten journey and let him bring you into the fullness of life. |
